It was grandmas funeral yesterday, all the grandchildren and in laws were watching over grandmas offspring....i cant refer to them as children because none of us are that anymore....
It was great to see the family all together...there was the usual out cry of we really shouldn't wait for something like this to happen before we get together...and its true. When our grandma was younger and grandad was alive we all used to get together.... particularly boxing day....and it was good. Grandma as they said in church yesterday did enjoy cooking and was very good at it.
Some people say "you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family". I am quite happy with my grandma's legacy...as my cousin Jeannette put it yesterday, and if i was able to choose for myself i would choose everyone of them to be my family, they all have their own special places in my heart all for very different reasons.
The organ left a lot to be desired, it made a high pitched sound, so loud nothing else could be heard...i for one was grateful in a way because non of us are singers...in fact i doubt that hardly anyone did, although lots of mouths were moving....if i had tried to sing they would have either left or asked me to leave!!!! grandad Brewer used to play an organ it was probably his way of helping us along...lol.
When i first entered the church i saw a group of people and almost hoped they would be a choir.... I am calling it a church but must say i was disappointed with the re build, i haven't been inside since it was burnt down in an arson attack a number of years ago, it doesn't feel like a church anymore. I used to attend this church on a Sunday evening as a teenager it was beautiful back then.
Afterwards we were all invited back to Waterton Hall, this used to be Walton Hall, and was a maternity home, i was born there. Legend has it that a baby was thrown over the bridge into the river, so parents weren't allowed their babies until the bridge had been crossed.....We all did our catching up, and amazed at the children who are now adults and initially had not been recognised. The food was lovely. My aunt Pat and Uncle Nigel had done all the work of arranging everything and had done a brilliant job...
Yesterday when i picked up my sisters and my own flowers i had intended taking a photo to post on here, but my mind was too full of the day ahead and i forgot, i had spoken with Nichola the evening before and also on the morning of the funeral about what to put on my card, she came up with a beautiful quote ....which i will add at the end of my post today.. Nichola is always there with support without my asking...in fact her support is there sometimes when i haven't realised i needed it but did.
The flowers were beautiful i had asked for Lilly's and she did me proud. Vicki's were lovely too, a mix of carnations....a favourite of mine. The flowers needed to arrive early at the chapel of rest, Vicki and myself took them....up to that point i had decided i wasn't going in to see grandma but when we arrived i asked if i could....i had things i needed to say and hope she was in there listening. She looked very tired, it had been a long time since her passing, but i was able to over look that because of what i needed to say. I am pleased my mum chose not go as she had intended to do.
I was going to post a photo of my cousin Lisa on her wedding day, which took place recently {due to mix up of communication i was not aware it had taken place until after the event, which upset both myself and Lisa}. She looked beautiful in keeping with all of my cousins on their wedding days.... i have some very pretty cousins, who take good care of themselves. I have saved the photo's from Lisa's email somewhere and will search again later to add them to this post.
This morning i woke early, before the sun had chance to rise, i watered the garden....i was feeling pretty guilty as my four very busy night shifts and the funeral meant i have not had the time to keep up to it, so i am sure it was very grateful. Tonight my niece has invited me to a hair show, she is learning hairdressing at college and has to dress up for the event....so the camera will be well poised and photo's ready to post tomorrow.
A quote {or as i call them..my thought..} for today:-
The glory of the world is transitory,
and we should not measure our lives by it,
but the choice we make to follow our personal legend,
to believe in our Utopia's and to fight for our dreams.
We are all protagonists of our own lives,
and it is the anonymous heroes who leave the deepest mark.

Hi Lynn, it's Anita - i went on your blogspot??! last night but it got late so quickly and i had to finally gie in and go to bed! I went to the grave thismorning on my way to work to look at all the beautiful flowers again before thet fade and to read the lovely things that everone had written. I popped in to see my mum after work and then couldn't wait to get home and put my computer on and get back onto your blogspot?? (is that right?) to have a proper read! It is fascinating and sooo interesting to read all that you've been up to and to look at all your fab photo's. I've learned so much about you that i did not know - it is so interesting. I need your proper e-mail address so if your passing my house and get chance could you pop it through my letterbox or write it down for your mum so that she can phone my mum with it? - that would be great. Also - i agree it was lovely to all be together yesterday, even though in such sad circumstance. Will have to go now as i need to make tea for me and Ian. Keep in touch, Anita x x
