Orchard Farm - Combles France

We arrived in France very early Saturday morning after travelling over on the 4am ferry. Dover was the buisiest we have seen it.

Vin was repairing a floor for the owners of the B&b whilst i read and caught up on some paperwork. The weather was lovely.

We left there early Monday morning and headed for the crater. There was no work for me but the men were kept busy. There were a few cadets inside the crater doing their bit as well.

In the evening we were invited out for a meal. A friend is over with three of his children his wife has been unwell recently needing treatment that has left her quite weak. Their daughter cooked for us and she did really well it was lovely. We had a lovely evening.

Today we are attending a memorial for wreath laying.

A few more family photo's

A few photo's taken from face book.

Tomorrow after a thirteen hour shift we set off for France and the 1st of July ceremony remembering those who fought in the battle of the Somme.

My grandfather was one of...he was one of the survivors. Vin's great uncle was not so lucky.

The first two nights we are house sitting for martin Peglar. Martin and his wife have a b&b on the Somme. Martin is also an author. They are very nice people. They have a couple of dodgy floorboards that Vin will be repairing whilst I catch up on a lot of paperwork...i must say i am looking forward to it.

We then head for Mash valley where we will stay another three nights. we will be helping prepare the crater for the ceremony.

We will then set our alarms ready for an early start at the crater on the 1st. I hope i am able to post on here daily while i am away.
