I have subscribed to Psychologies magazine since it's publication.
With every January issue they always add something extra...normally a journal of quotes..which i sometimes use when choosing my thought for today...this year it was a small book on wisdom from the world's most inspiring people.
These are a few that stood out for me:-
It's great to be over the hill because the view is so much more interesting going down than it is going up.
Virginia Ironside, 65, agony aunt.
The older I get, the less pressure I feel to please people. Blokes are very good at that. They say, "No I don't want to do that", and that's it. They don't have to give a long, blown-out explanation like women do. I'm trying to train myself to be more like a bloke.
Jane Horrocks, 45 actress.
It's hard when you're in the middle of something bad to understand that things are going to be OK. But just knowing that some day it's going to be behind you can give you strength. It's OK to have different chapters in your life. And it doesn't make you a bad person if things don't work out the way you'd hoped.
Dita Von Teese, 37, burlesque performer.
You can't own land, relationships or your children. All you own is your story, and you can't just stand still and hold on to it either - you have to live it.
Baz Luhrmann, 47, director, screenwriter and producer.
Women...well, all individuals, have to do their thing. No one stops you from doing stuff except yourself.
Chrissie Hynde, 58, musician.
True elegance is the manifestation of an independent mind.
Isabella Rossellini, 57, actress.
Glamour is more about some one's ability to make herself sparkle; true beauty comes from inside a woman, her character and temperament.
Evelyn Lauder, 72, Senior corporate vice president of Estee Lauder.
Unless we have a great many laughs and jokes along the way, there's no point at all. I think absurdity and laughter are important.
Judi Dench, 74 actress.
Everybody's got a different story, but really it's just the details that are different. The feelings are the same. And the most important thing you can do in life is to express those feelings.
Marianne Faithfull, 62 singer/songwriter.
Thought for today:-
"Quarrels would not last long if the fault was only on one side."
Francois, Duc De La Rochefoucauld [1613-1680] France.
